Professional Courtesy

is provision of care free of charge, at a discounted rate, or by waiver of any part of the fee, excluding adjustments for contractual allowance and approved prompt pay, self-pay discounts.  Typically professional courtesy refers to care provided to other physicians and their families. For the purpose of this policy, the definition also includes practice staff members;   physician’s and practice staff’s family members, and any other professional or personal relationship. Professional courtesy does not include care that has qualified for consideration of reduction or forgiveness due to financial need.
